This paper explores the psychological and emotional aspects of imperfection within abstract expressionism, viewing the artwork as a space of dialogue between the artist’s inner world and the viewer. Drawing on theoretical foundations from the psychology of art and the historical and stylistic context of abstract expressionism, the study examines how imperfection functions as an authentic expression of inner conflicts, emotional states, and unconscious processes. Special emphasis is placed on the role of color, gesture, and abstract form as carriers of psychological meaning, as well as on the empathetic relationship established between the artwork and the observer. The paper discusses selected examples of key representatives of abstract expressionism and lyrical abstraction, connecting theoretical considerations with personal artistic research. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that abstract expressionism enables a free and sincere confrontation with imperfection as a value, positioning art as a means of self-awareness, emotional release, and deeper understanding of the human psyche.
